Dr. Jamie Spangler is a 2018 V Foundation V Scholar and Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Trained at Johns Hopkins University, MIT, and Stanford University School of Medicine, she is pioneering new ways to harness the immune system to fight cancer.
Her laboratory engineers proteins that naturally regulate immune responses, including cytokines, growth factors, and antibodies, to make them more precise, more effective, and less toxic. By redesigning these powerful immune molecules, Dr. Spangler is helping create the next generation of cancer immunotherapies that can better target tumors while reducing side effects. Her work has the potential to transform not only cancer treatment but also therapies for autoimmune diseases and other immune-mediated disorders.
